I am trying to understand - How SQL Server 2005-64 bit handle memory? Say if i allocated 20 GB to SQL Server - will it grab 20 GB at instance startup or grab on demand as it required? Can some body please explain on this? Many thanks,Cali

I have assigned SQL to use 20 GB of memory (Fixed) and from the task manager and Total server memory counter i could see - SQL using 20 GB. Now does this mean - SQL Server is under memory pressure? My initial thought is - when you assign memory to SQL 2005 - it grabs on demand. in my situation - given it's using all the assigned memory - does that mean its under memory pressure? Can somebody please share some thoughts here? Many thanks,Cali

Not necessare, you have to look at other perfmon counters to find out if there is memory pressure. What's total db size on the server by the way?

Sqlserver:buffer manager - page life expectancy, Sqlserver:buffer manager - buffer cache hit ratio, Sqlserver:plan cache - cache hit ratio.
