Have just installed SQL Server 2005 x64 on Windows 2003 Server x64
Apply Service Pack 2
Apply patch KB934458
SQL Server 2005 version is now 2005.90.3054

Now I create a maintenance plan to do a daily full backup.
Execute the maintenance plan.
Maintenance plan fails with error message:
Process is terminated due to StackOverflowException. The return value was unknown. The process exit code was -2147023895. The step failed.

Doing a backup by right clicking on a database and choosing 'Tasks' -> 'Backup' is fine.

Doing a backup by running the SQL command "backup database <db> to <device>" in Query window works as well.

But trying to do other things (such as reorganise index, transaction log dump etc) via the maintenance plan will fail. I can't get maintenance plan to work. Did I miss something?

Did you install ssis on the server? What I'll try in this case: reboot server then run plan job again. If still have error, reinstall sql2k5 client then apply sp2 and fix.

thanks for the suggestion.
I installed SSIS and reapplied sp2 and fix

The maintenance plan symptoms have changed.
The package now manages to run sucessfully, but when you try and open up the package to modify it. It comes up with the following error:

Cannot show the editor for this task
Exception from HRESULT: 0xC0010014 (Microsfot.SqlServer.DTSRuntimeWrap)
