We are upgrading one of our databases to SQL Server 2005 64bit but this db needs to be able to run distributed queries on through a linked server which is still going to be SQL 2000 32bit. I know there is a known issue with this. I read in the KB that I can run the instcat.sql against the SQL Server 2000 server to update the system stored procedures which would then allow me to use the linked server from 2005. My question is, will there be any adverse affects to my 2000 databases if I run the instcat.sql?Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,Dustin

No.If you have SP4 and latesh patches then you shouldn't worry about installing it.

even if you have sp3, go to sp3 folder you will see this script just run it from query analyzer. I did this before and worked fine for me.
