| Guys,What is the best way to migrate 60gb database from SQL Server 2000 to 2005. What are the potential bottlenecks to look out for.The database is active between 8pm and 6pm only with a backup window between 12 and 1am.The database is set to full recovery mode with Transaction log backups every hour. Thanks |

| I'd use BACKUP/RESTORE method. I'd prepare the 2005 server with a recent full backup and then place it in NORECOVERY mode. I'd apply all of the transaction log backups WITH NORECOVERY mode. About an hour before you are ready to take production down, I'd do a tlog backup on the 2000 server, restore it to the 2005 server WITH NORECOVERY mode. And then once production is down, I'd take the final tlog backup, apply it to the 2005 server WITH RECOVERY mode. You can also add in a differential if you don't want to apply too many tlog backups.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Subscribe to my blog |
