Hi All,

It has been 2.4 years I have joined in my company right after my graduation, I stay in India’s beautiful city called HYDERABAD, I am in same company since I have joined. And friends I am now asking myself wither am I going right in my carrier...as I am not sure where I stand in knowledge on comparison with other fellows of my experience as SQL production DBA.

So I request you all great brains in here to show me where I stand as a DBA, and where I should improvise myself. And what would a company expect from me by looking my experience.

Waiting for your reply

How would we know where you stand as a DBA when we have no idea what your experience level is?

Where do you rate yourself: junior, intermediate, senior, or master DBA?

With 2.4 years of experience, I'd say in the junior or intermediate range. What is your current job title?

How can we comment on where you stand or where you need to improve?

We don't know you, so anything we say would be pure speculation.

It depends on how much you are exposed to it? Also SSIS, Reporting Services and SSAS.

Most DBAs will not need to have much experience on those. A working knowledge of them is good, but you don't need high experience level on those to be a very good DBA.

I'd expect an intermediate DBA to know how to not break production. Oh wait, I did that today and I'm a senior DBA.

Correct Tara. I meant to troubleshoot from DBA perspective.

I expect an intermediate DBA to do the things that I don't want to do, such as SQL Server installations and other mundane tasks. I expect them to have enough knowledge to not bother me all of the time with questions.

OK ..... thats a good news to me then, as i have done many a installations and have done lot more things beyond that.........What i am looking for is a list of Basic tasks which are considered as pass mark for a 3 years experianced DBA, and if i am perfect with tose (if someone gives it) i can have a sound sleep now...

I have heard of forum troll...

And by the way, my 4.5 year old daughter can install SQL Server from a CD.
That doesn't mean she know how to install a SQL Server.
