I have just purchased a dedicated server and trying to install SQL Server 2005 developer edition on Windows Server 2008. All the component checkboxes are disabled other than the workstation components. The only message I got during pre setup is that I need to install SQL server 2005 SP2 when I am done. I checked the workstation component and went through the whole setup. I applied SP2 but it appears that I have no SQL server instance on the server. The OS is Windows 2008 server web SP1. Visual studio 2008 was installed prior to the SQL server installation. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

You cant install developer edition on a windows server.

Its for workstations, ie vista or xp. You can only install, web edition, workgroup, standard and enterprise
