Hi,
I installed 64-bit SQL Server 2005 EE on Windows 2003 EE Sp1. While I tried to patch it with Sp2 it did not let me patch the database services. I found out why from the hotfix files
Products Detected Language Level Patch Level Platform Edition
Database Services (AMANATECH) ENU RTM 2005.090.1399.00 x86 ENTERPRISE
Notification Services ENU RTM 9.00.1399.00 x86 ENTERPRISE
Integration Services ENU RTM 9.00.1399.00 x86 ENTERPRISE
SQL Server Native Client ENU 9.00.1399.06 x64
Client Components ENU RTM 9.00.1399.06 x86 ENTERPRISE
MSXML 6.0 Parser ENU 6.00.3883.8 x64
SQLXML4 ENU 9.00.1399.06 x64
Backward Compatibility ENU 8.05.1054 x64
Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer ENU 9.00.1399.06 x64

**********************************************************************************
Products Disqualified & Reason
Product Reason
Database Services (AMANATECH) Setup cannot update Database Services x86 on this computer. To proceed, run the Service Pack Setup program for the x86 platform instead.

Can anyone tell me why Database Services and Notification services are showing x86-bit instead of x-64.

Regards

Looks like you didn't install 64-bit SQL Server. ALL patches should be 64-bit as well.

Hi,

The only thing left for me to do is do a clean SQL Server 2005 EE 64-bit installation on Windows 2003 EE SP1 and check for myself if every product shows 64-bit or not.

I will keep you posted on the results.

Thanks

Vhusain some features of SQL 2005 are not running yet on 64 bit. I don't remember where I saw it but I'm sure that I saw it. Thats why these features are running on x86 mode. I'm not sure but I think that the resource that I'm talking about is on the first chapter of the MCITP self training book for the 70-431 exam. If you have this book you you can check it as well. But as I told you I'm not really sure.

Yes but not Database Services. It should be 64-bit.

Dear All,

I finally managed to install the 64-bit version cleanly and installed SP2 on it.
I had to delete the registry settings completely. THe Windows Cleanup utility helped.

The culprit was the registry!!

Thanks you all for helping me out.

Cheers
