Hi all
Work has asked to investigate running SQL 200 and maybe 2005 in a virtual environment, and hope that with all the knowledge on this forum some would could either point me in the right direction or let me in on the main pitfalls or things to look out for.
Much appreciated.
Cheers
Phil

One major pitfall is that Microsoft does not support SQL Server on virtual servers unless you are using their VM product.

You don't have to use Microsoft's VM solution. We are using VMWare. But you need to be aware that Microsoft does not support SQL Server unless it is the approved VM solutions, which VMWare is not one of them. So yes we are using SQL Server on VMs that are using VMWare and yes we take the risk of no support from Microsoft on them. You have to be selective on what types of database you are willing to put on non-supported solutions.
