Hi,

We're running 2005 Express Edition on a server with 512MB RAM. When I look at processes in task manager the sqlsvr process is using about 384MB RAM. Based on that would there be any performance advantage to increasing to 1GB RAM? There are no other services running on that server.

Thanks

It depends.

What's the size of the database? What does Performance Monitor show for SQL Server Memory Manager: Total and Target memory? How about Page Life Expectancy and buffer cache hit ratio?

The rest of the memory is used by the operating system.

Even for small databases the SQL Server uses any available memory for caching.
