Hi,
Suddenly the automated database backup using DB Maintenance Plan has stopped working. When I am going to the JObs section under sql server agent, there is a red crossed out icon against this job.
WHen I am on this job and right clicking the property I am getting the following message:
Error: 14258: Cannot perform this operation while sqlserveragent is starting. Try again later.

I am not sure how to handle this error. I appreciate any help to resolve this issue. Thanks.

You'll need to fix the SQL Server Agent problem. Check out Services and Event Viewer.

OK Tara,
I checked the event viewer and did not find any relevant information that would relate to the sql server agent problem. Could you let me know possible cause of Error: 14258. Thanks.

What did Services show for the agent?

Tara,
The Services window showed sqlserveragent has started in automatic mode.

Try restarting the agent to see if it resolves the problem. The error message indicates there's something wrong with the Agent, so we need to rule that out first.

By the way, can you run ANY sql jobs successfully?

No sql job could run successfully. After researching the internet I found that the solution could be by unchecking the fiber mode. Then I had to restart the sql agent and the sql server. This did the trick and it is working now. Thanks for all your advise.
