Every month end there are a large number of "month end reports" that I need to republish and connect to a month end version of a database. Right now I open the project, create a new data source connected to the new database and repoint all datasets (sometimes a lengthy number) to the new data source and then publish to that months report folder. This presents several problems, one being that if I need to go back into a specific month end report, I can only go back into the most recent month I changed it to. I suppose I could copy the entire project and create on for each month, but that seems a little to messy and might cause more issues. The other large issue is if I want to make even the smallest change to a report I need to open it, change all the data sources and data sets to every single month going back and republish it, and this is for 20+ and growing reports and 6 months and counting, time goes on.What I want is to be able to have a fully dynamic report, the user selects a month and one or more datasources change to the appropriate month and repoint the data sets, or possible just have a dynamic data source so the datasets don't need to change, only where the datasource is point does. This way I can build my reports without any hard codes dates or conditions, strictly built around the database time frame. Is this possible? Or does anyone know a better way to manage monthly reports? Someway to centralize it so I am not constantly doing menial tasks such as creating datasources and repoint datasets?Any help is greatly appreciated and will save me eons of time! Thanks, |
