Hello:I'm so much a novice on these things and maybe I'm bit off more than I can chew. I have two computers linked up using a wireless router. All the basics are working fine...internet, sharing the 'Shared' folder, etc. between these two computers. First computer is a desktop running Windows XP Media Center Edition with SP2 (E510). On it I have installed SQL2000 Developer edition which came with the Office XP Developer Edition software. Now on my laptop in downstairs (DELL8200), I have simply installed Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. I tried to connect to the SQL2000 Database Engine running upstairs and no luck. Even though, the laptop sees the Database Engine named E510 (which is the one running upstairs)..it gets a timeout error. I'm using Microsoft NT Authentication and the user name its using is \\DELL8200\Amar. Now upstairs I also have a user named Amar, but I guess that one is \\E510\Amar. Gosh, what can I do? This seems quite complicated. I just thought the laptop downstairs with Management Studio Express would pick it up...and I could see and practice with the Northwind database. Upstairs all is well...I see the database engine running, connect to it...use Enterprise Manager on it, etc.Any help will be appreciated. Thank you. |
