Hi guys and gals, i'm sorry i'm actually pretty uninformed as to the more complex business related things for sql and i have a rather simple question.

I have spent the past hour trying to find a version of sql that can run on my 64bit desktop.

Sorry if this post has been answered before or is easily found but i have been having some trouble.

Every time i think i find it i get sent to a link for the ebook for sql 200 64 bit version. So i get very sad face as some might say.

What im trying to do is get a version of sql compatible for my desktop that runs a game that requires you to have sql. but most people that run this game have 32 bit computers thus consequently they use a version of 32 bit windows SQL.

THE MISTAKE I DONT WANT TO MAKE!
I dont want to download a 64 bit version of sql and realise i need the 32 bit version to run this game properly, the game is MuOnline.

So one of my questions is... Is there a way to run a 32bit SQL server on a 64 bit pc? Because i wouldn't want to compromise the instructions for setting up this game server by not having the version they are using. OR, should i be using a 64bit version of SQL 2000 since i have ofcourse... a 64bit PC. It also said something about i can use a x86 32 or something like that if anyone knows if thats what i need then let me know.

Aside from that most importantly i just need links and the knowhow to get a functioning version of SQL 2000 on my 64bit desktop, sorry if anything i said was confusing and if that is the case please let me

Install SQL 2008 Express Edition with Tools.
A 32 bit SQL Server will install on a 64 bit operating system.

well i kinda need the same user interface to be able to follow the instructions that are given on this website. link

http://www.elitepvpers.de/forum/private-server-discussions-questions/187570-mu-easy-guide-make-your-own-1-04h-muonline-server.html

I downloaded the 2005 sql version to run on my 64 bit pc.

is sql 2008 easier?

The problem i'm worried about is if i download it then i wont be bale to follow the instructions because of different words or designs that are used in newer versions.. but i will uninstall 2005 and keep the setup just incase. and download he 2008 you suggest.

But already i'm having problems with 2005 because i dont know how to do things that the instructions require with the old sql.

If you have any tips or can help me out pls reply as soon as you can.

thanks peso!

also i tried to install the sql 2000 on this 64 bit pc and it didn't install and that was the problem. it said i needed:
either a (86x) 32bit
or a (64-bit) version

in my case i'de imagine its the 64 bit

but my issue really is being able to follow directions on an updated version of the software

From what I've heard the SQL Server 2000 64 bit version is very buggy, and you will not need it to restore a database. Use the 32-bit version. I don't see anything in the instructions that would prevent you from using SQL Server 2005 or 2008, or even the Express Editions. Have you tried them yet?

You don't need the tools to restore a database either:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms186858.aspx

And if you do get the tools for SQL 2005/2008 Express, they should function closely enough to match the instructions given.
