Vanessa writes "Hi..

I am having problems installing SQL Server 7 Desktop Edition on Windows 98. Basically, installation runs through to the end - the message "Remapping Server Databases" is displayed and then the ERROR message "Setup failed to configure the Server. Refer to server error log and cnfgsvr.out for more information".

The error log states the last few lines as following:

2002-02-21 17:27:14.44 spid6 Problem creating symptom dump file due to internal exception2002-02-21 17:27:14.62 spid6 Error: 0, Severity: 19, State: 0

2002-02-21 17:27:14.62 spid6 language_exec: Process 6 generated an access violation. SQL Server is terminating this process.
.
2002-02-21 17:27:20.62 kernel SQL Server is terminating due to 'stop' request from Service Control Manager.

cnfgsvr.out states:

Starting Service ...

Connecting to Server ...

driver={sql server};server=T3O6O4;UID=sa;PWD=;database=master

Remapping Server Databases ...

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 6 generated fatal exception c0000091 EXCEPTION_FLT_OVERFLOW. SQL Server is terminating this process.

SQL Server configuration failed.

I have no idea why this is happening. Can anyone offer any help. I have reloaded windows and re-installed SQL Server but I keep getting the same error.

Look forward to receiving any advice..

Regards
Vanessa..."

Try stopping all unnecessary services. Remove AOL Adapter, Stop Virus scanning etc...

Then retry.
