Hi,
I have back up file of my MS sql 2005 database. When I try to restore it I get error:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The media family on device 'D:\xxxxx30.05.bak' is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family.
RESTORE HEADERONLY is terminating abnormally. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3241)

You can't. This is why you should check your backups actually work.

Did you run out of space or have other issues while this backup was taking place?

I assume you still have the database and other backups? go to an earlier/later one (depending on your requirements).

the data can be restored even without backups, I periodically use the restore sql mdf program, it can be found here: http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/how_to_restore_corrupted_mdf_file.html
