Hi Experts,

We have a production server with windows server 2003 and Sql2000 with SP4.We are not able to start the sql server agent service on the server although the sql server service is working fine. Also we have tried all possible ways to start sql server agent but all invain.when we start sql server agent from services.msc it is stopping after giving message(some of the windows services stops automatically if they have no work to do for example the performance log and alert service). The sql server agent is running on the account having admin rights on the server. Also when going through the sql agent logs the error is sql server error 18456,login failed for user x ,sql state 28000.

Thanks for your support in advance.

Check the Application Log in Event Viewer for the cause of the service not starting successfully.

Cause.

This problem occurs because the SQL Server Agent service cannot connect to the SQL Server service.

Solution.

In the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in, enable the SQL Server service account to be trusted for delegation.
