So I'm remote sql express and and I can remote connect from multiple computers off the local network easily. However the are a few stubborn ones that say the server does not exist. Can a machines local firewall prevent it from communicating with a sql server? If so is there a good work arond that dosent require admin rights?

Yes a local firewall can prevent access. We turn off the local firewalls and instead are protected by the company's firewall and other software.
