I have a question that perhaps some of you gurus out there can set me straight on.I finished about one year of studying SS 2005 BI and took the two exams. A few months ago decided to purchase a licensed copy of SQL Server 2008 Developer's Edition, so to further the upgrading of my skill set. I don't have a job working with these tools but do work in the field.Initially I had many problems installing the software, but after some brute force steps(reseting my desktop and laptop to factory images) I got the complete SS 2008 installation to install properly. My desktop is a Vista Small Business 64 bit system. Prior to installation I created a user logon that I called: "sqladmin", and gave it adminstrative permissions on the machine. I did the installation under this account, and when I got to the service account dialogue, I assigned "sqladmin" as the service account where applicable. The user I normal log on to is, let's say my name: "saviorfaire".I bought a BI step by step study book from an author/publisher that I bought the same series of books a year ago. I am not 100% clear when setting up an Analysis Services project, when you get to the Impersonation page for the Data Source, what to put in. The author, though very good, he actually worked on the SQL Server project at Microsoft, and he has a good writing style, was not exactly 100% clear on what should be entered for SSAS Impersonation Account. The project in the book I am working on, I used "sqladmin" as the impersonation account. Now the question. This morning I was working on adding calculated items to the cube's measure group via the "calculation" tab. I noticed at the bottom left, in the "Calculation Tool" section, an error message reading something like the following(I forget the exact verbiage):"Error retrieving/downloading meta-data, the user mymachine-PC\saviorfaire, does not have permissions/access to the database or the database does not exist". I know both of these to be false. The cube is still in Visual Studio and has not been deployed to the SSAS server, the datamart has been established. In fact the cube has been built by accessing the data mart.Am I missing something? One other item. Visual Studio seems to be freezing when I open this project, then try to close it and close down VS. I tried opening other BI projects and there was no problem.________________________________________________Talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish. |
