What kind of disk is this and how is it formatted? Have you used this disk for backups before? Have you checked the disk for consistency?- LumbagoIf the facts don't fit the theory, change the facts. Albert Einstein |

Yeah the disk is used for backups and the consistencies are verified after running chkdsk in safe mode on the server but all in vain. |

DBCC CHECKDB the database? - maybe the problem is in the DB rather than the medium for the backup file? |

I am getting the same error while trying to do a restore and there is NOTHING wrong with my hard drive. The restore filelistonly from the same file reads just fine. And the restore database command for other backup files in the same folder works just fine.What else can be the source of this error?E.R. Joell MCDBA |

Restore Filelist only reads the header of the backup. If there's a problem that only manifests further into the file, the filelistonly will succeed and the restore fail. If could be a problem with just a small portion of the drive.--Gail ShawSQL Server MVP |
