Hi all

just want to know your opinion about thease products
the Data Dude - gives us history on our DB
- we can go back to previous DB versions which is grate
to have you code sync with you DB
- reflectoring
BUT if someone change the DB out of the sql project the data dude wont know about that

in the outher hand there's the RedGate SqlCompare
it doesnt have history like the datadude
BUT the SqlCompare give us the ability to compare between DBs
like the behond Compare

if someone can give he his opinion about one on them or both
that would be grate

thanks

I've used Data Dude on two projects in the past two years (at developer's and architect's request).
In my opinion, it utterly failed in its promise, due to the fact that it claims to perform application-code style source control and check-in on sql databases, but does not adequately account for the tight integration between data, schema, and code in databases (which is not a factor in application interface programming).
In our first project, I can state with confidence that using Data Dude INCREASED our development effort between 25% and 33%, and on at least one occasion was directly repsponsible for loading bad data into our production database.
Neither are a substitute for a true DBA who understands the data and the business requirements, creates delta scripts and manages versions across a development environment

well i have to say i have the same experience
on the data dude ( on it's old version ) and like you said
"it utterly failed in its promise"
but let's give him a secdons chance :)

for now my opinion on the sql compare are very positive
in most case they really do whay they claim to
but still no history which is not so bad since you can create a
backup for each version :)

thank for you help
