I install SQL Server 2005 (without sp) on PC 1 and SQL Server 2008 on PC 2.
I need to connect SQL Server 2008 from 2005. But the SQL Server 2005 shows error: this version cannot connect SQL Server 2008

Which version of SQL Server 2005 can connect SQL Server 2008?

If you mean Management Studio, then you can't.

Management Studio is the SQL Server 2005 client.

What exactly are you trying to do? Why can't the 2008 tools be installed on the 2005 machine?

SQL Server 2008 is installed in a single machine which contains some databases and cubes. Panorama, a BI software, and SQL Server 2005 is installed in another machine (machine 2). This machine should connect to SQL Server 2008.

Then install the SQL 2008 client tools on that machine.
