hi everyone,

I'm exploring various options to get logins and jobs created on my alternate/failover SQL Server. We have not kept it in-sync with the primary server. When we created new logins and jobs on the primary server, we did not always create those on the failover server at the same time.

I know I can script these objects out ....

** But if I stop SQL services on the primary and copy the master and msdb database files --> the failover SQL Server .... what will happen when I start MSSQL on the failover server? Does this trick have a snowball's chance in @#$% of working ?

Thanks for opinions. John

Well it can work if the paths and build numbers are the same. But logins are super easy to transfer: http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/archive/2008/06/24/How-to-transfer-SQL-logins-between-SQL-Server-2005-instances.aspx
