Hi there,

My main goal is to restore the master db files out from the master.bak.

I know that in order to do so I must start the server in "single user" mode.

I tried the following in order to do so but with no luck

1. SQL Server Configuration Manager > DATABASE properties > start up parameters > adding "-m" to the beginning

Error message when trying to start the Instance:
"The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion. (event log - Error3(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason 1815) occurred while opening file master.mdf)

2. Entering (using Studio) to master Database proprties > options > Restrict Access - SINGLE_USER
Can't exit the option window - error - Option 'SINGLE_USER' cannot be set in database 'master' (error: 5058)

3. starting using the command "sqlservr"
Won't run.

Will appreciate any other ideas (for starting in single user mode) or to extract those master db and log from the bak file.

Thanks

jen
