HI TO ALL,

i have install SQL server2005,its install proper but when i open SQL Server Configuration Manager-- its not Opening
Giving Error like that--------
Cannot connect to WMI provider. You do not have permission or the server is unreachable. Note that you can only manage SQL Server 2005 servers with SQL Server Configuration Manager

when i google reason for this error i found this solution

open a command prompt and go to folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared

Type the following command:

mofcomp "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\sqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof"

but my

mofcomp.exe is in my windows file----- C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem

when run from CMD
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem>mofcomp C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared
\sqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof

it compiles fine but its not returning any msg like 'done'. still Configuration Manager is not Opening

If anyone know solution to this error please reply me thankx in advanced

What kind of server is this (OS)? Are you running Config Manager as an Administrator?

I am having the same issue. I searched everywhere but no one seems to have gone beyond the step of running mofcomp.
In my case I do get done message.
I am evaluating Microsoft SQL Server 2008 enterprise edition on Windows XP Professional service pack 2.

Are you installing from an original DVD or an .iso-file from msdn? According to this article Win XP is not supported by SQL Server 2008 Enterprise, only standard version is supported:

I solved the problem by enabling tcp in registry for MSSQLServer.
Here is the path

HKLM\software\microsoft\microsoft sql server\mssql10_50.instance\mssqlserver\supersocketnetlib\tcp

In the "Enabled" key under this path , set it to 1

After this add tcp to the protocol list of your instance.

HKLM\software\microsoft\microsoft sql server\Instance\MSSQLServer\supersocketnetlib

In the protocol list add tcp and np.

Restart sql server instance.
