I'm fairly new to SSRS and although I've got a handle on the construction and deployment of reports, the security roles have foxed me a bit.

On the home page of the myserver/reports portal, I have a series of folders containing reports for different departments. I'd like to be able to give people the ability to only see the right folders for their department.

At what levels (i.e. home page/folder/report) do I need to give a user "browser" permission to allow them to see the home page but with only the folders they have access to displayed?

With the various combinations I've tried so far, it seems to be all or nothing, with the user able to see and run all folders/reports or no folders/reports.

Also, I had to give "NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE" browser access for any of the reports to run at all. Could this be affecting the security settings available to users and, if so, is it fixable?

Ah, OK, solved it. I needed to go through each folder and remove "inherit permissions from parent".
