Hi,What are the pro and cons of having SSIS on a separated server than SQL Server db? Scenario:Server A: sql server engineServer B: SSISTo schedule a package on server A you need odbc drivers on server A and the package runs on server A anyways. What is the advantage of having SSIS on a separated server?ThanksAK |

It depends :-) on your situation. Here are some points to consider in making your decision:Security: Will the same people be accessing the database and SSIS server? Any "separation of duties" concerns?Maintenance: Downtime on the SSIS server will force the database server down. Is this acceptable? Dependency: What are the dependencies for all the databases on the server?Location of package: MSDB/File Licence: Do you require a separate licence for each SQL component? The cost?Performance: Are there any likely CPU/memory/IO issues with running both on the same server? Different server?Deployment/Change control ....You'd need to find the best solution for your site. Be sure to consider future usage/growth too. |
