| Hi, I have two questions which I need some enlightment?- Is it better to have an autogrowth In Percent or In Megabytes and why?- I have set my database as follows:mdf fileFile Growth In Percent - 10Maximum File SizeRestricted File Growth (MB) - 1000log fileFile Growth In Percent - 10Maximum File Size Unrestricted File Growth The database is not highly demanding and a regular back up is done which when restored too will serve the purpose.. Will the above setting be fine for me?Thanks |

| I never set my databases to restricted file growth. If, for some reason the database should grow out of proportion without you knowing about it, the database will actually stop working if it reaches capacity. It would be far better to let it autogrow and cope with any disk related issues later. That being said; you should really be in control of the capacity in your data files and grow the files manually during off-peak hours. Growing files can be time consuming and lead to unexpected waits for your users. The percent vs fixed MB discussion is more of a personal preference I think...- LumbagoMy blog-> http://thefirstsql.com/2011/02/07/regular-expressions-advanced-string-matching-and-new-split-function-sql-server-2008-r2/ |
