| what is the difference in char,varchar and varchar2??is there any limitation or restriction in using these data types....i'hve read that varchar is fixed width string datatype and varchar2 is a variable width string datatype...so what does it actually means.....if size of varchar is fixed then what is the size defined for it??astha |

| Generally speaking, char is fixed length, and varchar (varying character) varies in length, up to the length specified in parentheses. I don't know about varchar2, it's an Oracle data type, and SQLTeam is a Microsoft SQL Server website. There's an Oracle forum over at http://dbforums.com/ |
