Hi,

We have migrated our databass to new server during disaster recovery (cluster to standalone). Now we have different physical server name so our instances (default and named) will change. We have many applications connecting to these databases/server. One option is on application side connection string should be changed to point to new servers. I am thinking about server alias. So If I setup server alias on server level, then I just want to make sure that all applications will connect to this server with old name. So there will be no need to change connection string on application side.

Please let me know how this work. I want to save time.

Thanks

A server alias will not work. You can use a DNS alias though.

It's the responsibility of the DNS admin. Neither the DBA nor the application administrator will have access to setup a DNS alias.
