Hello,I am looking for some suggestions on how to estimate backup time. I have a DB that I need to backup and restore to another instance of SQL on the same server (migrating from 2005 to 2008). The database is 180GB and the majority of that is in one table as BLOB - image datatype. I would guess that about 170GB is in this table and the remaining 10gigs are spread throughout the rest of the DB.Do you have any thoughts on approximately how long this will take? The server is a 2GHz dual-core AMD Opteron with 4gigs of memory running Windows server 2003 64-bit. SQL Server is 2005 32-bit but this one DB is running in 2000 mode. RAID array drives with plenty of space.Any thoughts and suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.Thank you,Ryan |

How long is a piece of string?Has to do with IO throughput, concurrent activity, location of backup file vs destination files. Very hard to even give a ballpark figure.--Gail ShawSQL Server MVP |
