We are going to be doing an upgrade of our current system from sql server 2005 SP1 to a new system running SQL 2005 SP4. What I would like to know is
"Can SP1 backups be restored to SP4"
"Can SP4 backups be restored to SP1" in case it doesn't work.

I think I know the answer but would like someone else to verify it.

There are a couple of exceptions where you can't restore down service pack level, but in general service packs don't change the database version (exception is 2005 SP2 if you enable vardecimal storage) and it's that internal database version that controls whether a DB can be restored or not.
