| Hi,I have downloaded and installed Sql Server 2008 R2 express edition on my Windows 7 Home premium. When I try logging into my Management studio I am getting the below errorTITLE: Connect to Server------------------------------Cannot connect to local.------------------------------ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53)For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=53&LinkId=20476------------------------------BUTTONS:OK------------------------------I only see Sql Server Management Studio, Sql Server Configuration Manager under programs. Can some one help how do I fix the above issue. Thanks,L |

| Tara, Thanks for the quick reply. By default it was (local) in the server name and it was not connecting and throwing the error. But as you said I tried (local)\sqlexpress for the server name and it works like a charm. Can you help me understand why it does and doesn't when server name as just (local)? Appreciate your time. I am just trying to understand more stuffThanks,L |
