Hi I'm going crazy trying to solve this issue. I have two applications running on my laptop. The one collects data and transfers it to another using tcp/ip. Each application has its own database and everything works well. This is a test environment and the database used is 2005 express. Ultimately the receiving application will run on a different machine. When I try to setup both applications on the production machine and try and run them both the receiving application gets this error when it attempts to write to the database: a network or related instance specific error occurred while establishing a connection to the server. And then it goes on about the server not being able to deal with a remote connection. However the connection is not remote and its almost as though the receving application can't find the server. However both machines appear to be indentical and I can go into sql management studio with no problems.

Hi Jack. Thanks for your quick response. I have read that document, but the weird thing about this problem is that I am not trying to access the database remotely, but from the local machine.

Could you post the connection string the application is using?
Are you using Windows Authentication or sql authentication?
