I love the format and ease of use of MS Access but it can't handle the large data sets that I need to process. I would ask for a stronger tool but I don't know what to ask for. Suggestions?

Since SQLTeam is a Microsoft SQL Server site, we will probably recommend...wait for it...Microsoft SQL Server!

SQL Server?
This is after all a sql server forum.

Any of the major dbms can probably do what you want - implementing it reasonably is the issue.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
SSIS can be used in a similar way.

MS SQL Server.

If you don't need databases over 10 GB, the free version (SQL Server 2008 R2 Express) will do.
