I have a huge database of size 250GB but i want to reduce the size of the database, have deleted millions of records from the databse expected huge size gain but i see hardly 4gb space gain so far. I would like know the steps to be followed to reduce db size and gain disk space after deleting the transactional records from the huge tables.Regds,Amar |

What recovery model - are you taking tr log backups - is the sapce data or log?Have you tried a shrink? Without that you won't recover space. Is there free space in the database?==========================================Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.SSIS can be used in a similar way.Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy. |

You have to shrink the db to get the unused space back BUTit will increase the fragmentation.Do shrink only if u sure that the space released wont be used again by that database.Regards,SushantDBAWest Indies |
