 why image data type is 2GB

hi all;
i want to know,why image data type is 2gb even while storeing the image the image will not store in that table, it wll store out of database.

Image type data is always stored in the database. The 2 GB limit is how it was originally defined: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms187993.aspx

If you need to store > 2 GB you'll have to use varbinary(max) with FILESTREAM in SQL Server 2008 or higher:
