Hello All,

I have setup push transaction replication. Last week the new snapshot was taken and was delivered to the subscriber successfully but now it is again showing this message -
The initial snapshot for publciation is not yet available.

Can anyone tell me why every week I get this message? Shouldn't it be one time process unless any change made to the publication. Nothing changed so far.

Thanks,

russell

How do I know if the subscription was expiring or someone reinitialized it?

How do I fix it so does not happen again?

It's a SQL Agent job on the server that the distribution db lives on.

Also see this

edit: oops. meant this (though both are valid)

Again, the snapshot issue 'Snapshot is not available' even after running the snapshot agent just 3 days ago. Can someone please help me? I can't everytime reinitialize the subscription. There must be some setting which I am missing.

Please advise.

What errors are you seeing in the SQL Server logs and msrepl_errors table on the distributor machine?

Is the distributor dedicated, or on the publisher?

What is your transaction retention period and your history retention period?

What options have you set in the distributer agent profile?

Russell - here are the answers to your questions.

The msrepl_errors shows these messages:
TCP Provider: The semaphore timeout period has expired.
Communication link failure
TCP Provider: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

The distributor is on the Publisher server.
Transaction retention is 0-6 days. History retention is 4 days.
Distribution Agent has the Default agent profile checked.

Sorry I was away for 3 weeks so doesn't reply earlier.

Thanks,
