Can anyone please help I want to modify the below query, so that it returns the <pair owner, table_name> where owner is user JOHN or JIM and table_name starts with an 'C', 'D' or 'E'

SQL> select table_name
from all_tables
where owner like "JOHN"

make where condition like:-

...
where owner in ('JOHN','JIM')
AND (table_name like 'C%'
OR table_name like 'D%'
OR table_name like 'E%')
