someone started perfmon counters and just left it without stopping it. though it has been stopped we need to find who and when was this done..any suggestions

perfmon counters do not put much load on the resources. Not sure but try checking event viewer.

I run perfmon 24/7

But not from the SQL Server. I run it remotely.

If it is running locally, open task manager and see what account it's running under.

If you know what time it was stopped - check the Security Section of the Event Viewer
