In the log shipping of 2008 server, the job agent service in the secondary server has to be activated ?

Yes. Why wouldn't you want it to be started?

I can't start the job agent service in my secondary server. Maybe it is the account problem.

The application log in Event Viewer is your friend here. It'll have the reason for the service failing to start. Resolve that.

here is the SQLAGENT log . is it related to DisableAgentXPs ? I tried all accounts , Network, Local System and Local service, failed.

I do remember I have disabled SA account and created my own account. I can't use Windows Authentication to log in, only SQL server authentication works now.

finally made it work. I enabled XP Agent. When I use 'local service' account to login job agent, I have to apply first, then start it. The lesson I learned is this 'APPLY' .
