I had a malware attack on my computer and by the time I got rid of it my computer was messed up having made changes to the Registry. When I click on the icon for SQL Management Studio I get the error message 'Package Microsoft SQL Management Studio Package failed to load'. So I downloaded another version of SQL Management Studio and try to install it but couldn't because it said the SQL Management Studio was already installed. However, I could not find SQL Management Studio in my Uninstall feature on the Control Panel. The nearest I could find was a program called SQLXML4 by Microsoft. Is this the name for SQL Management Studio in the Program Uninstall list? If not, how do I uninstall SQL Management Studio if I can't find it in the Uninstall panel?

Your best bet would to be reinstall the operating system as it could be near impossible to get this working again without the help of Microsoft.

Wow! I never had such an impact from a virus as this. Do you mean a clean install from scratch which would requiring reloading all my programs again? For the record, the virus was Win 7 Anti-Spyware 2012. I just signed up for Facebook yesterday and today I get the virus. Coincidence? What a crock. I was trying to use the Facebook login feature on a webpage which gives a callback to my computer.

Yes that is what I mean. Your other alternative is to open a support case with Microsoft, but those aren't free. It'll likely take longer to get you through this issue then it would to reimage your computer. My work laptop was reimaged recently (not due to a virus but due to an OS upgrade), and it took just 2 days to get back to normal and that included the Windows 7 reimage process.

I've used FB for years without any issues. I am not sure why you would ever want a callback feature for FB.

How about trying to uninstall SQL Server 2005 itself. Would that remove the existing version of SQL Server Management Studio?

I was under the impression you didn't have anything that said SQL except the XML bit. Yes uninstall that and select the option to just uninstall the tools.

On a whim I clicked on SQL Server Management Studio from the Start command rather than from a desktop icon and it executed ok which tells me their is something wrong with the Desktop command. I deleted the desktop shortcut and made a new shortcut to the desktop and it executed ok again. So I don't know what that means. However, now I cannot get Visual Studio to execute properly either from the desktop or from the Start button and I am trying to uninstall it and reinstall. My problems are not over yet and I am wondering if I screwed up the registry when deleting the virus.
