Hello

I have no experience with SQL server. I am currently using MS Access and need to upgrade to something more powerful.

I have done some searching online but I am a little confused, there are so many different sql server programs (localDB, Compact, Standard etc). I need a, preferably free, version that I can run on my desktop with Windows XP. All I need to do is create a bunch of tables and make table queries. I do not have a server.

Can someone tell me which version of sql server is the right one?

Thanks

SQL Server 2008 R2 Express is probably perfect for what you want. It's hard to say without more requirements though. It's free and is a solid product for what it offers.
