I have never done this before. Can anyone assist me with this? what is the best tool to use?

There are many ways to screw a database......

We can't answer the question until we know what you have.

Do you have a sql serve backup? a .bak file?

is this from a database in simple recovery model / full recovery / bulk logged.

Do you just have the .mdf and .ldf files?

What's your situation?

well...my admin tells me that he overwrote the database with last night's backup. the situation was that i was working in ektron mistakenly deleted a taxonomy. There was no way to recover it so I just wanted to see how it was structured to I could relink the information.

So are you trying to get back the data that was lost since the restore?

I don't think there is any way unless you have a backup of the db taken just before the restore?

if you do then tell us the files you have and we can help.
