I am a SQL Developer working on a contract until the end of July. Just recently, the IT manager came up to me and ask me for my recommendation of going to SQL2012 (currently using SQL 2005). My though were to jump right away to QSL2012, and not making a slow transition going through SQL2008 and then to SQL 2012. The IT manager is afraid to make big steps, he rather small steps.I know that not matter how clean the migration can be, you always have to count with issues, so knowing that, and because I do not want to deal twice with issues, I think to make the transition from 2005 direct to 2012 seem to be the right decision. The only concern that I am having is that SQL2012 just came up and I do not know how big of issues I can find between 2005 and 2012. I do not have problem to deal with issues but the IT manager might have. I am looking for some kind of advice and recommendations. Thanks in advance for your help. |

I would go straight to 2012. Why plan 2 migrations? THAT is a lot scarier than making big jumps. |
