We have two node cluster. Active/Passive. On active node 5 instances are running. They are mixed of sql server 2008 r2, 2008, 2005 instances. We will virtual node in this cluster and then failover to virutal node. My question is whether I have to install sql server for each instance on virtual node? Or it is enough to just add node to exisitng cluster and then failover all instances to new virtual node?

Thanks

You'll need to run setup for each of them. With 2008/2008 R2 you can use the add a node feature. However with 2005, you'll need to run through the painful installation.
