Does any one know a good site that discuss on how to make a good/ effective database? I want to enhance our current database system and I also want to learn more regarding databases.

How about here.

There's no best design - it depends on how the database is to be used.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
SSIS can be used in a similar way.

if it was well designed first time, it will be easy to enhance.

if you are looking at redesigning the who DB Model that will lead you to more work in order to enhance it.
