Hi all,I'm currently studying for a Microsoft certification in SQL Server 2008 (70-432, FWIW). The official book I'm studying from, by Mike Hotek, explicitly says in a table on page 13 and again on page 19 that only SQL Server 2008 ENTERPRISE "supports the installation of multiple instances on a single machine".ddddSurely that's wrong, isn't it? I'm sure if I put the install disk in my server which already has an instance running Standard edition that it merrily allows me to go ahead and install another instance. Can someone confirm this form me? I'll be mad if it's a mistake in the book it wouldn't be the first time - how am I supposed to learn?! |

That's wrong. You can install any number of instances up to the maximum. I've got 4 on my desktop now, none of them Enterprise.IIRC there were numerous complaints/reviews on Amazon that one of the certification books had numerous errors. You might want to check there and see if that's the one I'm thinking of. |

Yep, that seems to be the same book, just had a little vent on Amazon myself! Absolutely disgraceful that Microsoft should endorse a book so factually incorrect. According to Microsoft's own site, all editions of SQL Server 2008 support 50 instances on a single machine, or 25 in a clustered environment. |
