| I'm not sure how much easier it can be made. The Performance monitor is a Windows NT/2000 service that hooks into just about every process you can run on the computer, and it gives just about every possible statistic you could want. Everything is well documented and you can set up to trace anything with about 3 or 4 mouse clicks. It will even create performance graphs. SQL Profiler is also extremely easy to use and totally flexible. If you haven't done any extensive performance monitoring before, then naturally it will seem a little daunting at first, and interpreting the results requires some experience too. Have you looked in Books Online under "performance"? There's a ton of information there.Other basic monitoring functions are sp_who, sp_who2, sp_lock, sp_monitor, a whole bunch of system procedures designed specifically for monitoring SQL Server. Look them up.Also take a look at http://www.sql-server-performance.com/, I'll let you guess what they specialize in. |
