I have an SSRS 2008 R2 report, where I have users that want to export the reports to excel. They are able to export the reports to excel, and they want to be able to sort the data in excel. However they are getting an error message that says there is a problem due to 'merged cells'. Thus can you tell me what you would do to solve the problem?

The best solution, if you can accomplish is to avoid merged cells. Take a look at the section "Merging Cells" on this page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd255234.aspx

The person who wrote the report says there are no merged cells. Thus can you tell me what else I can do to solve the problem?

it may be due to some nested containers used in SSRS
unless we see rdl file its difficult to understand reason
