| Hello everyone. I have a maintenance plan on my 2008 R2 server that takes a full backup of all the system databases daily. However, the job is failing with the following error:BackupIoRequest::ReportIoError: write failure on backup device 'D:\DATA_BACKUP\msdb_backup_2013_11_12.bak'. Operating system error 1117(The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.).I can see that it is failing to do a backup of the msdb database. The master and model dbs were backed up properly but it is failing on msdb.However, if I run the same job on Local Disk 'C', it works perfectly without any errors. Disk 'D' is also a local disk.I did a CHECKDB on msdb but did not find any errors. It is not the hard disk issue because I had my network administrator replace the hard disk with a brand new one and still the problem persists.Please help me with this. I truly appreciate your help. Waiting for a solution to this issue... |

| Disk full on Drive D?Unless you have a Housekeeping job running that deletes history of old backups etc. MSDB will grow forever. If the server has been running a long time and/or has a lot of databases the size of the history will already be "big" |

No, lot of free space available on the hard disk. And like I said it is not the hard disk issue because I had my network administrator replace the hard disk with a brand new one and the issue still exists.Also, the issue exists even if I try to do a backup of msdb manually to that location on the drive. I am stuck here and I need some help with this. |
